Selecting Your Insurance Policy

Not everyone needs the same insurance coverage and depending on your car, age and lifestyle you can lower the costs of your policy and get what you need from it. Here are some things to keep in mind when shopping for an insurance policy:
- If you are under 25 years old and buy and inexpensive or second-hand car, getting comprehensive car insurance coverage might not be the best option for you. For one, the cost of the insurance policy itself might be higher than the cost of the vehicle. So getting a £2,500 policy for a £1,000 car might not be the most cost effective solution. A third party fire and theft policy though will set you back around £1,700 but will save you £800 on your annual motor insurance policy which does add up.
- If you are driving an expensive car your policy costs will go up because of the costs for repair and car parts but it does pay to be fully insured in the case of an accident so a comprehensive insurance plan may be the right thing for you. So with your car being priced at £7,500, a £2,500 comprehensive insurance policy that pays out the value of you car in the event that it is damaged due to an accident, theft or fire does not sound bad at all.
- Older drivers looking to get comprehensive insurance for their vehicles, especially those over 25 can still lower the cost of their policy. The risk factor on the driver can lower policy costs if the driver in question has a good standing driving record and a cheaper car. On the other hand those that prove to be high risk with more expensive vehicles will have to be prepared to shell out more cash for good coverage.
