The Planning
Before you head out to the used car dealer or market, make the preparations
to aid yourself in the purchase; especially if you are on a busy schedule
and cannot afford to spend hours looking at every car your salesman
suggests.
When shopping for a used car, the two most common questions a salesman
might ask are,
o What sort of car are you looking for? Any particular make or model,
and/or year in mind?
o What is your budget?
By preparing your answers, you are giving much help to the salesman
by letting him know what cars are out of the question, while narrowing
down the choices for you to view.
When doing research about your next purchase, always keep in mind the
2 P’s: Practicality and Price. Obviously a two-seater sports car
is never going to fit a family of 6. It is just as unlikely that a college
student can afford a luxury car by himself.
Start by browsing online buying sites and the classifieds section of
your newspaper to make a comparison of the cars. What are the cars that
catch your eye? Do they also adhere to the 2 P’s rule? This research
would also give you a rough estimate of the prices of various car models
in your area.
Reading through forums with discussions on cars might be a good idea
too. You will be able to find out by doing a survey of actual owners’
experiences on their overall review on the car, like whether a car needs
little maintenance, or many trips to the mechanic.
